During the pandemic, UniTS Racing Team created and developed “Formula University”, a championship held on Assetto Corsa and dedicated to university teams, allowing them to virtually challenge each other and compete on the track.
Though actual races and competition between teams were not possible, UniTS Racing Team ensured the continuity of this sport by favoring the community spirit that has always characterized this environment. The event is streaming on the “UniTS Racing Team” YouTube channel.
The championship started on October 18th and will end in early June. A total of 15 races will take place on famous tracks, such as Imola, Monza, Silverstone, Barcelona, RedBull Ring, Spa Francorchamps, Hockenheim, Interlagos, Portimao, Nürburgring, and on some less known tracks, such as Fuji, Sepang, Donington Park, Estoril, Vallelunga.
The competing cars are 2017 Dallara Formula 3, initially used with free setups which only then became fixed.
Up to now 25 different drivers from 8 different teams have participated. To adapt to the needs and commitments of university students, the regulation favors participation by not penalizing absent pilots, and thus allowing a wide turnover of pilots, including beginners who want to put themselves out there.
This project is independent from FSAE but much appreciated by the guys involved, who share a passion for racing and motorsport.
A very nice environment was actually created over time, where people can talk, discuss and even train with their rivals.
However, on race day all the drivers go on track trying to bring home the best possible result, with full commitment and competitiveness, but also respect and sportsmanship.
